Hyaluronic Acid: A Molecular Shape Shifter Under the Influence
The conservation of molecular contour across size scales was observed for hyaluronic acid fragments. The self-assembly of HA fragments is not random, but is influence by local electric and magnetic fields. This can be seen from the electrophoresis and solution properties results on enzyme digested hyaluronic acid. This ability to change size and conserve shape make HA an ideal scaffold for biomatrixgenesis. This also means that the ability of HA to remodel or to repair tissue could be vulnerable to matrix altering chemicals, including water and any hidden messages in water. Biophysical data shows that shape-shifting and the nature of segmental interaction within the HA changes is a function of molecular size.
