Visit tribute site at Fort Nelson Park, Portsmouth, Virginia. Awarded for my work with Boston inner-city minority students in science and mathematics as professor and executive dean at Roxbury Community College of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
My work with minority students in science started with science demonstrations at the Brooklyn Museum Science Museum when I was a graduate student at NYU Poly. As a community college professor and dean, I spent my career creating opportunities for students. At the end of my career my program called the MATRIX became part of MIT research opportunity program (2005). I completed my personal research at the end of 2008 and now I am the President of my non-profit corporation, BIAS, Inc..
My Hometown
Ray Turner aka Major Ray

Waterfront, Portsmouth
The famous rap music star Missy Eliott(left) and her mother (not shown) were seated beside us (my wife is next to me) at the Notable 2006 induction ceremony in Portsmouth, VA. "Missy" and I were both born in Portsmouth. Read about the event. Much sympathy to the family of my fellow notable, Ruth Brown, the key note speaker at the May 2006 notable event, who passed away. May she rest in peace.
